Marjorie Frances Herrmann was born in New York, New York on July 10, 1918 to Augusta Frances Siemering and Raymond Russell Herrmann. She grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota and was an active member of the Camp Fire Girls. Marjorie attended Cottey College (1937-1939) in Nevada, Missouri, where she joined the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.).
